Learning Polish online is not the main challenge. Finding structured, high quality materials once learners move beyond the basics is. In this project, the partner consortium behind polski.info responded to a clear gap in B level resources and to growing demand for advanced learning materials, in a context where migration has also had a visible impact on the Polish language learning landscape.

The work built on an existing free e learning platform designed for autonomous study. Before the project, polski.info already offered interactive courses at A1 and A2 levels, alongside a grammar section and an established educational presence on Facebook. The core aim was to extend this learning pathway by adding a complete B1 course and strengthening the supporting tools around it, including grammar content and integrated dictionaries.

The target group was broad but clearly defined. It included adult learners of Polish, migrants living in Poland, and people affected by war, such as Ukrainian refugees. To reflect real self study routines, the B1 materials were designed around dialogue based sequences and everyday situations. These were supported by exercises for listening and reading comprehension, vocabulary development and grammar explanations, with cultural elements integrated throughout. The content was tested and refined through classroom use in partner countries, informed by learner feedback and regular improvements.

Results and outputs

By the end of the project, polski.info had been expanded with a complete B1 course consisting of 30 lessons. The course is organised into six modules with five lessons each and was prepared for multilingual use.

The B1 course is available to learners in Czech, English, German, Lithuanian, Slovak, Slovene, Ukrainian and Polish. Supplementary materials were also developed to support teachers who wish to use the platform in classroom settings.

The platform’s dictionary functionality was significantly extended, with 5,000 new Polish words added so that learners can click on a word and see its translation. Audio and visual content were strengthened as well, with 307 new sound files linked to the relevant texts and 105 new illustrations added to the portal.

Our role

Studio GAUS GmbH developed the initial project idea and led the preparation of the funding application. We coordinated the overall working process and were responsible for the further development of polski.info as a long-term, free learning platform for Polish.

We coordinated the collaboration within the partner consortium and defined the structural framework for content development. This included developing content guidelines, aligning learning objectives, and ensuring that new materials were coherently integrated into the existing platform structure.

Over the course of the project, we integrated the new B1 course into the platform, including lesson structure, grammar sections, and multimedia elements. We prepared the content for multilingual use and coordinated the translation workflow across partner organisations.

Throughout the project, we accompanied content development, implementation, and quality assurance to ensure that the expanded platform remains stable, consistent, and usable beyond the funded period.

Project partners

  • Uniwersytet Pedagogiczny im. Komisji Edukacji Narodowej w Krakowie (Poland)
  • Studio GAUS GmbH (Germany)
  • Ostravská univerzita (Czechia)
  • Vytauto Didžiojo universitetas (Lithuania)
  • Svietimo zona (Lithuania)

The partnership combined two face to face meetings with numerous online meetings, allowing the production process to continue smoothly while content development and technical work progressed in parallel. Alongside ongoing peer review, quality assurance was carried out through regular partner feedback integrated into the collaboration.

Visibility and impact

By the end of the project period, polski.info had reached 23,700 registered users from 138 countries. Usage data shows steady growth over time, with 9,848 new users registering in 2022 and a further increase recorded during the final project year. A total of 7,139 users listed Ukraine as their country, underlining the platform’s relevance for learners studying Polish in a disrupted and uncertain context.

Dissemination focused on educators and multipliers who could bring the platform into real learning environments. In Slovenia, a multiplier event with 24 participants brought together adult education practitioners and teachers, many of whom reported that they planned to use the materials in their work. In Slovakia, polski.info was presented at the Výzvy2023 conferences for language teachers. Participants highlighted the value of the platform’s multilingual access and comprehensive materials, and the event contributed to attracting new users.

polski.info supports learners who study at their own pace and require clear structure, explanations, and content reflecting real life use of the language. With the B1 level now fully integrated, learners can follow a longer learning pathway on the same platform, using familiar tools that support them from the very first steps through to more advanced learning.
