For more than a decade, deutsch.info has supported adults around the world who want to learn German independently and free of charge. This project builds on that experience and responds to a clear development. Digital learning habits, technologies, and user expectations have changed significantly. To remain effective and accessible, the platform requires a fundamental update.

At the centre of the project is a new German A2 level course developed specifically for autonomous adult learners. The approach prioritises spoken language, a focused and relevant vocabulary, and practical communication. Instead of long word lists or complex explanations, the course is built around short, focused units that emphasise repetition, listening, reading, and active sentence building. Grammar is introduced selectively and supported by examples, audio material, and illustrations.

The new course is closely linked to a comprehensive redesign of the deutsch.info platform. The platform is being technically rebuilt to meet current standards, with a strong focus on mobile use, accessibility and energy efficiency. The redesign also aims to simplify navigation, reduce loading times, and create a coherent system that brings courses, dictionaries and learning tools together, replacing structures that were previously spread across the platform.

Multilingual access is a core feature of the project. The A2 course and the integrated dictionary are being prepared in 21 languages, allowing learners to study German with support in their own language. This is particularly important for adults who cannot rely on English as a bridge language. A newly developed dictionary module links vocabulary directly to the lessons and presents different word forms and meanings in a clear and structured way.

The project is currently in progress. Initial work has focused on defining the structure and pedagogical approach of the new courses and on preparing the platform framework for its integration into deutsch.info. These foundations support the ongoing development and refinement of learning content and materials.

Testing with teachers and learners is an integral part of the development process and supports the continuous review of usability and learning quality.

Our role

Studio GAUS GmbH is responsible for the project concept and overall structure and coordinates the complete working process, including project management and content development. We initiated the further development of deutsch.info 2024 and shaped the conceptual and pedagogical direction of the project.

Our work includes the development of the new A1 and A2 courses, the creation of illustrations and learning materials, and the integration of courses, dictionary components, audio material, and learning tools into a coherent platform structure. We accompany content development and refinement processes and ensure that new components are sustainably integrated into the deutsch.info platform.
